Professor Ben Eggleton

Benjamin Eggleton is the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research) at the University of Sydney, where he oversees the university’s research operations division. Eggleton is also a Professor in the School of Physics, where he leads a cutting-edge experimental photonics group focused on nonlinear optics, photonic integrated circuits, and smart sensors. Eggleton is Co-Director of the NSW Smart Sensing Network (NSSN), heads the Jericho Smart Sensing Laboratory (JSSL), sponsored by the Royal Australian Air Force and is a Chief Investigator at the ARC Centre of Excellence in Optical Microcombs for Breakthrough Science (COMBS). Eggleton has published over 520 journal articles has accumulated over 30,000 citations, with an h-index of 89 (Web of Science). He is a Fellow of Optica, IEEE Photonics, SPIE, the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE), and the Australian Academy of Science (AAS). Eggleton served as President of the Australian Optical Society (2008–2010), on the IEEE Photonics Board of Governors (2015–2017) and is Editor-in-Chief of APL Photonics since 2015.
